Electronic Exchange System for Priority Document of Patent Application
Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) and Japan Patent Office (JPO) as well as Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) have established electronic exchange systems for priority document of patent application on December 02, 2013 and January 01, 2016, respectively. For patent applications filed to TIPO first and patent applications of the same invention filed to JPO or KIPO later, the applicant only needs to choose “access code” (Japan) or “electronic exchange” (Korea) for “priority document application”. TIPO will then create electronic encrypted files of priority documents according to the lists sent by JPO or KIPO after verifying relevant information is correct. TIPO will then exchange priority documents with JPO or KIPO by mail or network transmission. Similarly, for patent applications filed to JPO or KIPO first and patent applications of the same invention filed to TIPO later, the applicant can also file priority documents through the electronic exchange systems. The electronic exchange system for priority document of patent application increases the convenience for Taiwanese applicants to apply patent applications to Japan and Korea. This system is also beneficial in accelerating patent examination process. To encourage Taiwanese applicants to use the electronic exchange system, the application of access code (Japan) and electronic exchange (Korea) for priority documents is free.
