USPTO: 2015 Annual Report
Below are three statistics from the 2015 annual report of United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)FIG. 1 – Number of Patents Issued to U.S. Residents and Non-U.S. Residents in 2014 and 2015
As shown in FIG. 1, the numbers of patents issued to non-U.S. residents are higher than the numbers of patents issued to U.S. residents in 2014 and 2015. While the number of patents issued to non-U.S. residents has only slightly increased from 2014 to 2015, however, the number of patents issued to U.S. residents has largely decreased from 2014 to 2015.
FIG. 2 – Numbers of Total Applications Pending and Awaiting Examiner Action at End of Each Fiscal Year from 1995 to 2015
As shown in FIG. 2, the number of total applications pending (orange) at the end of each fiscal year has increased from 1995 to 2008/2009 and decreased slightly from 2008/2009 to 2015. The number of applications awaiting examiner action (blue) has increased from 1995 to 2008 and decreased from 2008 to 2015.
FIG. 3 – Numbers of Provisional Applications Filed from 2001 to 2015
As shown in FIG. 3, the numbers of provisional applications filed has increased from 2001 to 2015.
